HOLY PASSION
By John Trotter
Spiritual passion is the most essential ingredient for deliverance and freedom in the Christian life. Churches are emptying all around us. Men and women called of God are giving up. Pastors are falling captive to sexual immorality and pornography. This nation is in search of something that will consume their innermost physical being and make it spiritual. More conferences and camp meetings are not the answer, but what America needs is a fresh visitation of the Holy Ghost. A visitation, which sparks holy passion, unleashed! It is time men and women clean house and get a spiritual passion that would be the driving force in this generation. My hearts cry is that we drop the pride, drop the religion, drop the hype, and get a holy passion that will set this world on fire. Lord gives us men and women that will put their guts on the line. Give us men and women that nothing else would matter in their lives other than themselves being crucified and your name glorified. Passion for the planet – that is my hearts cry today!!
Webster’s Dictionary says passion is this: a suffering or enduring; the last suffering of Christ; a strong feeling or emotion; violent anger; vehement desire; love. As you can see that definition covers many areas of our purpose as Christians. I will attempt to break down each part of the definition so we may truly see what it is going to take for this world to see men and women of holy passion.
First off, passion is a suffering or enduring. We must realize that if we are going to have a holy passion that is unleashed that it is not going to be just a sudden explosion. A steady burn is more useful than an out of control fire. Passion remains steady in times of testing and even in times of revival. A man of true endurance should not have to have a revival or a struggle dictate his level of passion. A true person of passion remains with the press all the time, never compromising or backing down to anything that strays from the truth which is the Word of God. God sends moves of the Spirit that are indeed explosive but holy passion must stay consistent through these times. If passion is lost in the midst of the explosion, then everything is in vain. Holy passion in spurts can be counterproductive and that is why it is important that men and women get a suffering, enduring passion that presses through all life’s situations. Passion suffers, praying and seeking many times a tiresome objective. But the results of suffering passion are beyond our imagination. It is time we raise the standard high and start enduring and suffering for the cause of Christ. The apostles and other great men have gone before us. Pay up! It’s your turn now.
Passion is the last suffering of Christ. This simply means passion is everything Christ was during his final suffering on the cross. This means passion is holy love unleashed. Despite the persecution, pain, and anguish Christ loved. Despite the mocking and beatings, Christ loved. Love is everything Jesus is. Love is the suffering of Christ. Jesus paid everything on his final suffering, conquering death, Hell, and the grave. As Christ suffered so does holy passion. Passion set ablaze is all out love being poured out to all kinds of people. To the one condemning, to the one battering…that’s what holy passion is. Get a passion as Christ had and light this world on fire.
Thirdly, passion is a strong feeling or emotion. Passion is not hurried as I have discussed and passion does not necessarily have to be loud and emotional. But passion does indeed have to have feeling. Without feeling, passion is not poured out. When we get our desire, persistence, and everything we are behind holy passion this country will see a revival that turns it upside down. We must get everything we are behind our passion, pouring out everything within us. God give us men of great feeling, of great heart, that will pour passion until they can do no more in their own strength. May we get to the point where dependence is solely on the Spirit and His strength. Jesus give us the feeling and emotion to win the world to Christ!
Holy passion is violent anger. This sounds extreme but nothing could be more biblical and on target for the way holy passion should be carried out. Passion is most indeed love, enduring, and suffering but passion cannot help but to be violent. The word still says…’the Kingdom of God is rapidly advancing and the violent must take it by force." Gods love grace and unfailing mercy is great and the forefront of holy passion, but without Christians getting violent for the Kingdom the activating of passion will never be carried out. We depend on Gods Holy Spirit, but there comes a point in our faith where we just step out and do the work God has called us to. We can’t sit around waiting for God to give us a vision for our generation. Our vision is this…PREACH CHRIST, PREACH CHRIST, PREACH CHRIST! It is time young and old people alike get violent for the Kingdom, becoming so desperate that they could do nothing else but go into the dark areas of the spiritual realm taking back everything the enemy has stolen. It is time we break the chains of religion, of sexual immorality, of fear, by simply getting violent for the Kingdom and taking back that joy, peace, and excitement of living for the King of kings and Lord of lords. The time is now, let us be busy about the Father’s business and take back the Kingdom by force!
Lastly, passion is also defined as a violent (vehement) anger. This seems like it doesn’t have much to do with passion but in reality it is too right on with our vision as Spirit filled Christians. Violent anger must be our demand. The enemy has deceived and deceived until we can no longer walk upright in our Christian lives. Satan feeds lies and more lies and many times we start to believe those lies because we fail to quote the truth. The only way to overcome the enemy is to stay rooted and grounded in the Word of God. We can pray eloquent prayers and cry until our lungs are sore but when we start quoting the promises of God which are yes and amen the enemy must back away from us. For James still says, …"submit to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you.:" Isa. 54, another promise of God still says that "no weapon formed against us shall prosper," You see we must understand that the weapons of our spiritual warfare are not carnal but they are might to God to the pulling down of strongholds and until we get a violent anger for the Kingdom of God our passion will be ineffective. We need to get such an anger at the enemy realizing that he is dragging our families, friends, and country directly into the pit of Hell. May we get angry for the kingdom, ripping down the walls, tearing the roadblocks to revival we have set up. For God longs to move by his awesome power and revive this land but with sin and complacency, holy passion will not be productive. The only way this nation will see Christ and this world be set ablaze is if we get a violent anger that will consume us from the bottom of our hearts to the depths of our soul. Lord, I pray that our passion would increase and you would make us angry for the Kingdom pressing on with everything we have.
Holy passion is not something every man of God is going to be able to activate to their life. It takes men and women of God that have great, courage, determination, and persistence who will be able to answer this call. There is no room for feeling sorry for yourself or questioning your role as a man or woman of passion. When you decide to get a holy passion, you go. You do not sit around and contemplate what to do. You go, you do, you serve and you love. Once again, Lord, I pray that we get a passion that will come over us in a real, intimate, dynamic way. God let your holy fire come upon us and give us great passion for the Kingdom. 2 Chr. 7:14…."If my people who are called by my name will turn from their wicked ways and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from them and heal their land." Holy passion and healing does not come without a price. Men and women will have to decide what kind of price you’re willing to pay. Passion is all or nothing, in or out. The call has been the same since the Day of Pentecost. Let us preach Christ and set this world ablaze by the power of the Holy Spirit. Freely give and freely receive.
